Mark Dennis Retrato

Say hello to Mark Dennis Retrato, Industrial PhD student in Analytical Chemistry at Uppsala University.

After graduating from the BS Chemistry program of UP Diliman, Dennis taught as an instructor from 2012-2016 at the Institute of Chemistry while taking up units for MS Chemistry. As an instructor, he taught general, analytical and organic chemistry lecture and laboratory classes to undergraduates.

In 2018, Dennis embarked on the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees in Excellence in Analytical Chemistry (EACH) at Uppsala University and University of Tartu, Estonia. For his doctoral research, he is now developing analytical methods for assessing the stability of lipid emulsions used for parenteral nutrition.

Some fun facts about Dennis:

1. He loves to cook and eat! His recipes of adobo, sinigang na salmon, Korean-style fried chicken and rellenong bangus are a hit at Pinoy parties in Sweden.
2. Outside science, his passions are traveling, nature hiking and photography. He has been to 27 countries (pre-pandemic, of course) and loves traveling with friends but has since realized that traveling alone is the best since you call all the shots!
3. He has been a huge Sarah G fan since 2003! He literally grew up with her music, her performances and her entire showbiz career! Even today when he wants to hear some Filipino, he watches Filipino movies or series through iWantTFC under the influence of fellow Pinoy Scientist Ralph Gonzales.
