Here to electrify our page for the week is Pinoy Scientist Cesar Miguel Fabro, a Masters student at the University Paris Saclay under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Program Surface, Electro-, Radiation, and Photo-Chemistry (SERP+).
Cesar graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University as Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Minor in Economics. His undergraduate thesis project “Survey of the Market of Chitosan and Carrageenan in the Philippines” was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Student Research by the Department of Chemistry and the university. During his time there, he was also a Research Intern for the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC). He then worked for a time for ENDEC, Inc. as a Technical Writer and Project Support for the Cooperative Threat Reduction Integrating Contract, assisting with laboratory assessments, research, and coordination for project implementation.
He began his Masters degree in 2022 at the Université Paris-Saclay where he spent his first, third, and fourth semesters of the Erasmus Mundus program. His second semester was at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland and he spent his 2024 summer term in Genova, Italy taking the Summer School in Management at the School on Science Management for Scientists and Engineers.
For Cesar’s final semester under the program, he was a Research Intern at the Commissariat a l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA) – Institut des sciences du vivant Frédéric Joliot where he investigated how electrostatics influence hydrogen evolution catalysis in nickel porphyrins. Having just completed his time at Université Paris-Saclay, he is still working as a Research Intern at the CEA.
Some fun facts about Cesar:
- He once took a 14-hour bus ride from Madrid to Paris
- He is also known as the “adobo master” in his master program for introducing adobong baboy to his colleagues and continuously cooking it for them
- He has explored the catacombs of Paris with the so-called “Cataphiles”
