It’s a new week and we have a new Pinoy Scientist taking over! Meet Dr. Searle “IC” Duay, a chemistry instructor at Adamson University!
IC graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines Diliman. After working as a chemistry lab instructor, IC then pursued his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Connecticut. There, he investigated the influence of the local pH environment and Zn(II) on the structure of antimicrobial peptides.
Currently, IC teaches a variety of subjects at Adamson University, including inorganic chemistry and biotechnology. His research interests include antimicrobial peptides, molecular dynamics simulations, peptide membrane interactions, biochemistry and biophysical chemistry.
Some fun facts about IC:
- He loves singing, especially chorale singing! In fact, he was a member of the UP College of Science Chorale and University of Connecticut Glee Club. He also has a Youtube channel where he uploads some covers.
- He started collecting mugs from the places he’s travelled. Currently, he has ~20 mugs now.
- Even though he doesn’t like spicy food too much, he enjoys trying food from different places, especially if it’s local cuisine!
