Pinoy Scientists on Instagram is officially 1 year old! Check out our stories for a short history of Pinoy Scientists through the years and our next steps moving forward.
Taking over this week is Dr Lisa Lamberte, a research fellow at the University of Birmingham. Lisa is an expert in molecular microbiology with a track record of studying gene regulation in bacteria and the human gut microbiome as a reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes.
Before coming to the UK, Lisa took up BS Biology at De La Salle University Manila after which she pursued a Master’s degree in Microbiology at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
After graduating from her Master’s, Lisa worked at the Marine Science Institute of UP Diliman, where she worked on projects relating to the development of a recombinant influenza vaccine and screening for the cytotoxic effects of compounds isolated from marine biodiversity in the Philippines. Currently, Lisa is studying how antimicrobial resistance genes are transferred in the infant gut microbiome.
Outside of research, Lisa is an avid writer and dreams to one day publish a novel. She’s also a console gamer and has been a fan of anime since she was a child. Despite this, she doesn’t often binge watch TV series (except for Stranger Things and Dark).
Let’s all welcome Lisa to the Pinoy Scientists fam!
