Taking over this week is Lianne Angelico “LA” Depante, a PhD student in Policy Studies at Tokyo’s National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies under the Monbukagakusho scholarship!
LA graduated with a Bachelor of Public Administration from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he graduated as class valedictorian and magna cum laude. He then took up a Master of Arts in Asia-Pacific Studies (Political Economy) at Taiwan’s National Chengchi University.
Before pursuing his PhD, LA was an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Open University, where he also chaired the Public Management program, and now continues to teach in its MPM and ASEAN Studies programs as a Senior Lecturer.
LA’s dissertation aims to challenge our conventional understanding of the Philippine political economy through the lens of our electronics and semiconductor industry. Outside academia, LA is also a consultant and resource person to numerous organizations and public offices.

- His greatest fear is not death but an alien invasion
- He started as a music major in college, but ended up in politics and development! What a plot twist!
