Are you ready for class because we’re closing out 2025 with Pinoy Scientist Aaron Gabriel Espinosa, a PhD student in Earth and Environmental Science at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with a passion for science education.
Aaron studied Biology for his undergraduate degree at the University of the Philippines Manila. He graduated in 2019 and worked briefly as a Research Assistant at the university’s College of Medicine. It was during this year that he began his career as an educator, joining the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc. as a Mind Mover for The Mind Museum. While there, he led more than 15 projects for the foundation and served as the Chief of Content for The Mind Museum’s educational show “Mind S-Cool Online: Living Things and the Environment” Aaron moved to the UP Diliman campus after a few years to get his Master’s in Biology, during which he took on various teaching positions at both UP Manila and De La Salle University. He was also a Junior Project Assistant at UP Manila’s Department of Biology and was responsible for a number of administrative tasks. He graduated in 2024, earning the distinction of Excellence in Graduate Studies.
Aaron is now in Singapore as a PhD student of Earth and Environmental Science at the Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Technological University. He has maintained his love for biology education, serving as a Teaching Assistant at the university. In the laboratory, his research tackles marine turtle genomics and conservation and outside of the classroom, he is the Development Director for the Asian School of the Environment Graduate Student Club.
Some fun facts about Aaron:
- He’s a gamer by night! Name a console or handheld and he probably has it. His last completed game was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (what an ending!), and right now he’s playing Hollow Knight: Silksong (He needs to git gud)
- He’s deathly afraid of cockroaches and most arthropods; crustaceans are fine, though
- He’s a musical and theatre fan! In fact, he played The Hare from Alice in Wonderland when he was younger
