Hello hello hello! This week we’re joined by Jonathan Concepcion, PhD student in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology at Michigan State University.
Jonathan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Central Luzon State University, where his thesis revolved around the phenotypic and genotypic variability analysis of mutant lines of traditional pokkali rice.
Before embarking on his PhD program, he worked as a Science Research Assistant and Analyst at the Philippine Rice Research Institute in Nueva Ecija. For his dissertation, Jonathan is studying the breeding genomics of wheat in diseased and different environmental conditions.
Some fun facts about Jonathan:
- He loves watching horror and thriller movies. In fact, when he analyzes data or writes a report or manuscript, there is usually a horror movie playing in the background
- He loves penguins! He hasn’t seen one in real life, but would love to see (and hug) one
- He was part of the dance troupe in high school and for a short period of time in college
