For this last week of July, we’re joined by Clint John Otic, an Engineering doctoral student at Japan’s Tohoku University.

Clint graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). After a brief stint as an instructor in the same university, Clint pursued his Master’s, and later, PhD studies, in Engineering (Finemechanics) at Tohoku University.

As part of Tohoku University’s Institute of Fluid Science, Clint focuses on computational fluid dynamics, with an emphasis on rarefied gas or micro/nanoscale flows (We’ll let him explain over the week!)

Some fun facts about Clint!

  1. All his sneakers are white, including his winter shoes
  2. His alcohol cabinet contains a five year old unopened lambanog
  3. During his MS graduation, he wore a Meranaw textile called “landap” to represent his Lanao heritage

Clint John Otic, PhD was still a doctoral student at Tohoku University, Japan when he first took over Pinoy Scientists in July 2021. Taking up Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with a specialization on Finemechanics, he was a member of the university’s Institute of Fluid Science studying computational fluid dynamics.

He completed his degree the year after, moving to the prestigious University of Tokyo as a Postdoctoral Fellow. At the moment, he is working at the Micro/Nanoscale Thermofluids Engineering Laboratory studying polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs).
