This week’s Pinoy Scientist is a specialist in international relations and foreign policy. We’re getting to know Margaret “Maggie” Jane Go, a PhD candidate in International Relations and Politics at the University of Westminster, United Kingdom and a Research Officer at the University of Westminster Business School.

Maggie did her Bachelor’s in International Trade and Economy at Xiamen University, China, graduating in 2014. She moved to Singapore to do her Master of Science in International Business Management at Edinburgh Napier University, then took up a second Master’s at the University of Westminster. She completed her MA in International Relations with distinction, exploring Philippine, US, and Chinese relations and foreign policy. In between her two Master’s degrees, she worked for the Philippine Office of the President as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. After her MA, she was briefly an Associate for Geomines Resources Inc., Manila.

Maggie is now a PhD Candidate in International Relations and Politics for the University of Westminster School of Social Sciences. Her current focus is on the relationship between China and the United States. In addition to her studies, Maggie has been working with non-government organizations (NGOs), think tanks, and research centers such as Vision Net Africa, Create Your Table, and Active Travel Academy. She also facilitated workshops and gave lectures for her university’s undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is currently a Research Officer for the University of Westminster Business School.

Some fun facts about Maggie

  • June 14th is her birthday! Hello fellow Geminis!
  • She has no plain white, black, or grey socks in her collection. Every single sock she owns is colourful, crazy, and unhinged.
  • She disco roller skates for fun. Is she any good? Not really – she’s an amateur, but the word amateur comes from the Latin Amare, meaning love, something driven by joy and not mastery or competition. She skates simply because she loves it.
