Happy Chinese New Year to all our Pinoy Scientists!
Since it’s the new year (again!), of course we have a new takeover for you. Meet Valerie Valeriano, a research engineer at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
Valerie graduated with a BS Biology degree from the University of the Philippines Manila, after which she pursued a combined MS/PhD program in Animal Science/Industrial Microbiology at Dankook University in South Korea. There, Valerie described the first completed genome for Lactobacillus mucosae.
Valerie then took up her postdoctoral studies at Umea University in Sweden. Currently, she is working on developing a culturomics platform for women’s health and oncobiomics.
Though she spends a lot of time in the lab, Valerie loves exploring the outdoors and maintaining an active lifestyle through sports like boxing. Since she’s in Sweden, she’s also currently learning Swedish! Everybody say “Välkommen” (welcome) to Valerie!
