Here to stretch our brains and show us the many possibilities of polymers is Chemical Engineer and Certified Materials Professional Seigmund Jacob Dollolasa, a Research & Development Engineer at Era Polymers Pty. Ltd. in Australia.

Jacob graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines, Los Baños in 2010. Right after graduation, he became a Technical Support Cadet at EMERSON Electric Asia-Limited (ROHQ) before moving to Total S.A. as an Operations Technician. He also worked as a Chemical Engineer for the Legaspi Import and Export Corporation while he was still in the Philippines, managing operations in the handling of various chemicals. In 2017, he moved to Australia where he was an Operations Coordinator largely specializing in managing hazardous substances and dangerous goods, working at Hapag-Lloyd (Australia) Pty. Ltd., and Inchcape Shipping Services Pty. Ltd.

Recently, Jacob has found himself at Era Polymers Pty. Ltd. in Australia. As their Research & Development Engineer, he handles the development and improvement of polymer products both new and existing. He also manages the scaling-up of operations for factory production. Just in August of this year, he was also recognized and inducted by Materials Australia as a Certified Materials Professional!

Some fun facts about Jacob:

  • He loves the coastline. Living along the eastern coasts of Sydney, he has convenient access to a plethora of coastal walks and trails. He has embedded coastal activities in his routine – sunsets by the beach, coastal runs, outdoor gym by the coast, and coastal calisthenics.
  • Motorsports help him take his mind off the daily grind of the research lab. He is a Motorsports Australia official and has volunteered to officiate racing events. He has tried flag marshalling and scrutineering and is ooking forward to trying other roles in future races.
  • Fermentation is his favourite chemical reaction. He is a newbie homebrewer. Looking at his fermentor and watching the reaction inside makes him think of what an amazing world we live in.
