This week, we’re joined by Sarah Cosgriff, a science communicator, trainer and presenter who lives in the UK.
Sarah has a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences and a Masters in Systems Biology, both from the University of Warwick. She started a PhD in 2011 with a focus on cell migration and left in 2012 to pursue science communication.
In her career, Sarah has worked on the STEM Ambassadors programme which involved linking STEM volunteers to local schools and has also worked for a youth charity, where she trained youth workers to embed STEM activities as part of their programmes.
Sarah now works for the Association for Science Education on a project which focuses on inclusion in secondary school settings, a LGBT+ education charity called Schools OUT UK where she develops STEM resources for teachers, and as a freelancer who delivers science communication training and science shows for young people. Sarah is passionate about inclusive practice in science communication and has a particular interest in LGBTQ+ inclusion in science engagement.
Some fun facts about Sarah:
- She is a mix of Filipino and Australian and grew up in the UK. She has lived in Italy, Japan and then moved to the UK when she was 5.
- She is asexual and queer. As part of her freelance work, she works for a LGBT+ education charity and she also does advocacy for the asexual community.
- In her spare time, she likes to cross stitch and play games on her Nintendo Switch. She was a big fan of Pokemon as a kid!
Let’s all say hi to Sarah and welcome her to the Pinoy Scientists community!
