This week, we’re joined by Queenie Tanjay, who is currently working as a senior laboratory technician in polymer chemistry in New Zealand.

Queenie graduated with a Bacherlor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of San Carlos in the Philippines. She then worked as a product engineer for the electronics company Taiyo Yuden, as well as a failure analysis engineer for ON Semiconductor. In 2020, she embarked on a graduate diploma in Applied Management-Manufacturing at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in New Zealand.

Currently, she is working for Scion, a research institute driving innovation in forestry, wood products, and biomaterials. Her research involves the conversion of methane into bioplastics, bark biorefinery, digital packaging, among others.

Some fun facts about Queenie:

  1. She feels at her best at the mountains or forests.
  2. She spearheaded a community extension program back in 2014 – project LIBRO, which aims to install mini libraries in far flung mountain schools in Cebu. Its vision underlines the need to close the gap between urban and rural schools in terms of educational support.
  3. She’s a Drag Race fan (biases are Katya, Manila and Jinkx). If she were a drag queen, her name would be Lily Asia.
