Say “hallo” to Philip Cesar Flores, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy in Berlin, Germany.
Philip graduated with a Bachelor’s, Masters and PhD in Physics from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he was also awarded as the Most Outstanding PhD in Physics Graduate.
Throughout Philip’s undergraduate and postgraduate education, his research explored the quantum time of arrival operators, investigating the quantum violation of the weak equivalence principle and the tunneling time problem. After graduating from his Bachelor’s, he worked as an Instructor and Teaching Fellow at the National Institute of Physics, teaching classes on topics like Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Special Relativity and more.
Philip also worked as a Science Research Specialist at the same institute, where he worked on developing a cheaper alternative for existing ISO methodologies implemented in Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories. In his current role, Philip develops geometric concepts in the photoionisation of chiral molecules.
Some fun facts about Philip:
- He started collecting gundams during the pandemic to keep himself sane amidst the lockdowns while working on his dissertation.
- He did not attend his PhD graduation since he was already in Berlin at that time.
- He has a twin brother. According to Philip, “Akala daw ng ibang students masungit “ako” kasi hindi namamansin kapag nakakasalubong nila ako sa UP Diliman campus.”
Let’s all welcome Philip to the Pinoy Scientists fam!
