Carla Bertulfo is a PhD candidate in Biological Sciences at Columbia University. For Carla’s doctoral studies, they are using the Nobel Prize-winning gene editing technology CRISPR to explore combinatorial therapies against T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Lowell Iporac is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Environment at the Florida International University. In his current doctoral work, Lowell explores interactions between macroalgae and invertebrates as well as investigates the characteristics of habitat-forming organisms in tropical shallow coastal systems.

Johnny Altomonte is the CEO and founder of Verne Energy Solutions where he operates and implemented sustainable energy projects, from renewables to energy efficiency.

Emmylou Nicolas recently graduated with a Master of Biotechnology from the University of Adelaide in Australia where she used the Nobel Prize-winning gene editing tool CRISPR/Cas9 to investigate disease-causing gene variants.

Rommel Real is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of the Philippines Mindanao. He handles courses related to calculus, numerical analysis and optimization.

Alexa Abangan is a Marine Sciences graduate from Sorbonne University and is about to start her PhD journey with the French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER) where she will explore fish behavior and develop machine learning technologies.

Justine Millado is a soon-to-be Doctor of Agricultural Science from Nagoya University. Her doctoral thesis focuses on analyzing apoptosis regulation in the domestic silk moth.

Andrea Salvador is a neuroscience PhD student at the University of Virginia. Since starting her PhD, Andoi has already published in prestigious journals like Nature, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Immunology, Nature Reviews Immunology and Cell.

Adelle Yuson is a physicist and a faculty member at Central Mindanao University and program lead of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics’ online Physics Meetup. She is passionate about introducing global physics icons like Roger Freedman to students in rural areas.

Clint John Otic, an Engineering doctoral student at Japan’s Tohoku University. Clint focuses on computational fluid dynamics, with an emphasis on rarefied gas or micro/nanoscale flows .

Sero graduated with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Neuroscience, with minors in Economics and Comparative American Studies from Oberlin College. Currently, Sero is a graduate research fellow at Princeton exploring the genetic mechanisms of early-life stress.

Ronilo “Onille” Flores is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) and Associate Dean of the UPLB Graduate School. Onille’s current research projects revolve on microbial ecology and biotechnology toward planetary health which includes exploring microoganisms from different habitats and sources and their biotechnological and medical applications.

Denxybel Montinola is taking up his Master of Medical Physics at the University of Sydney, Australia where he is investigating what happens when small-scale radiotherapy doses are deposited in our lungs.

Jason Pechardo is a materials engineer and faculty member at UP Diliman. His research interests revolve around composite materials, nanomaterials, materials fabrication and design as well as aerospace materials, among others.

Aeiou Martija is a doctoral researcher at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. For his doctoral research, Aeiou is currently exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying glioblastoma, a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumor.

Mark Dennis Retrato is an Industrial PhD student in Analytical Chemistry at Uppsala University. For his doctoral research, he is now developing analytical methods for assessing the stability of lipid emulsions used for parenteral nutrition.

Charlotte graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines Manila. Charlotte performs start up and site activation activities like prepping site regulatory documents, project planning and making project timelines.

Marielle graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from UP Baguio and a Master’s degree in Astronomy at Taiwan’s National Central University where she hunted trans-Neptunian objects using the Hyper Suprime Cam.

Cherry Madriaga is a PhD candidate at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo.

Jeff Arapoc is a teacher and researcher at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. His fieldwork involved a lot of interaction with people from different walks of life, and these experiences hit him with a new perspective on the importance of public policies and their implementation on the ground.
