Enter the last week of May with our next Pinoy Scientist, Dr. Matthew Go, a forensic anthropologist at the US Department of Defense’s Central Identification Laboratory.
Matthew, or Matt, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, minor in Biology from the Simon Fraser University in Canada. He then pursued a Master’s and PhD degree in Biological Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. (Fun fact: Congratulations are in order as Matt literally just graduated from his PhD program while under quarantine!
In his current position, Matt is primarily engaged in the applications of anthropology and archaeology to medico-legal issues involving human skeletal remains (e.g: criminal investigations, forensic identifications, etc). Research-wise, he is also interested in developing the field of forensic anthropology in the Philippines.
Although Matt is presently based in Hawaii and has lived in five countries across three continents, he still considers Manila his home. While Matt certainly has an eye for research, his eyes could also be the stuff of research themselves. After all, he has detached retinas, his contact lenses are implanted on the insides of his eyes and there’s a silicon rubber band wrapped around his right eye.
Let’s all welcome Matt to the Pinoy Scientists family!
