This week’s Pinoy Scientist is Mario Jr Rebosura, PhD, a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Queensland, Australia with more than a decade of experience under his belt in project and wastewater management.

Mario graduated from the University of the Philippines Los Baños with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Moving to Korea, he pursued his Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at the Catholic University of Korea also serving as a laboratory instructor and research assistant. After graduation, he worked for a time as an Internal Sales Engineer for Endress + Hauser Korea Co. Ltd. and a Senior Engineer for the Plant Engineering Division of Kunhwa Engineering & Consulting. Mario then moved to Australia to pursue his PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Brisbane, Australia. While there, he was a casual academic for the School of Chemical Engineering, delivering teaching programs in business, industrial wastewater management, and solid waste management. He stayed on first as a lecturer and post-doctoral research fellow at the Resource Recovery Research Group, Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology then as an Adjunct Fellow for the university until 2025.

Mario returned to the Philippines under the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) Balik Scientists Program in 2024. He was also a Research and Development Consultant for Maynilad Water Services, Inc. during this time. He has since returned to his position as a post-doctoral research fellow in Australia under the Australian Center for Water and Environmental Biotechnology.

In his spare time, he is a research proposals technical panel evaluator for DOST – PCIEERD and a reviewer for several international journals.
