Our final takeover for the month of May is Pinoy Scientist Engr. Joshua Agar, a wind engineer and assistant professor at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman currently working on the Multi-Hazard Impact-Based Forecasting – Early Warning System (MHIBF-EWS) Project.
Joshua completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at UP Diliman in 2015, receiving his Civil Engineering certification from the Professional Regulation Commission the year after. He then re-enrolled at his alma mater for a Master’s degree. While he continued to study Civil Engineering, for his graduate studies, Joshua focused on Structural Engineering. From his undergraduate years, Joshua has kept a consistent interest in Wind Engineering which characterizes much of his research. After graduation, he remained at UP, working for the College of Engineering, the UP Center for Air Research at Urban Air Environments, and the UP Building Research Service. He also spent some time as a climate consultant for the Jails Vulnerability Assessment of Persons Deprived of Liberty.
At the moment, he is an assistant professor at UP Diliman’s Institute of Civil Engineering, where he has been teaching since 2021. He is also a junior technical expert for the MHIBF-EWS Project and the Philippine national project coordinator for the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters, Universite de Catholique de Louvain in Brussels, Belgium.
Some fun facts about Joshua:
- He plays billiards competitively, having reached the Last 128 of the 2022 Philippine 10-ball open.
- He uses a bicycle as his main mode of transportation, cycling 40 kilometers daily.
- He is engaged and is to be married to Kimberly Anne Buenaobra on the 22nd of June 2024.
