Joining us this week is Jose Carlos Ocampo, a licensed professional teacher, psychometrician, and a predoctoral researcher in education from Universidad de Deusto in Spain.
Carlos graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Educational Psychology from De La Salle University, as well as a Master in Learning and Teaching from the same institution. His Masters thesis was an action research on developing and implementing a feedback model in classrooms, which was funded by the St. La Salle Financial Assistance Grant.
Before his current role, Carlos worked as a visiting PhD researcher at Ghent University in Belgium. He participated in different activities from the Education, Media, Assessment, STEM, & Technology research group. One of his research projects investigated the affordance of a computer-supported collaborative learning environment for peer assessment platforms. This research project was funded through the Erasmus+ Traineeship Grant as the Special Interest Group 1 in Assessment and Evaluation of the European Association for Research in Learning and Instruction (SIG 1 EARLI).
Here are a few fun facts about Carlos:
- Everyone in his family holds a postgraduate degree — his father in veterinary science, his mother in agricultural entomology, his brother in econometrics (funded by the Chevening Scholarship), and his sister with a PhD in organizational development (funded by the Endeavour Postgraduate Fellowship)
- He has been a long-distance runner since he was 13. Apart from running away from his problems (see fact 3), he has finished several full marathons.
- He’s a stand-up comedian. He has performed around Spain, Belgium and the Netherland.
Let’s all welcome Carlos to the Pinoy Scientists fam!
