Say hi to Jane Garcia Physics PhD student at the University of California Merced (soon going to Johns Hopkins University!)
Jane graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she investigated steady-state wealth distribution in a kinetic model of gambling. She then took up her Master’s in the same institution, after which she set off for the International Centre of Theoretical Physics in Italy as a research student.
At UC Merced, Jane is currently working on understanding the self-organization of topological defects in liquid crystal phase transitions.
Some fun facts about Jane:
1. She is an ARMY and watched them for the first time in their LA concert last month!
2. She loves watching indie films and K-dramas and used to attend indie film festivals in the Philippines!
3. She cannot work without music in the background and even makes it a point to bring two (!!) sets of earphones/headphones to make sure she always has access to music wherever she goes.
