New decade, new set of fantastic Pinoy Scientist takeover. Our first takeover for 2020 is none other than Dr. Irene Crisologo, a postdoc at Northwestern University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
Irene obtained her Bachelor’s in Applied Physics at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she graduated cum laude. She also took up her Master’s degree in Geology at UP, after which she headed to the University of Potsdam in Germany to take up her doctoral degree in Geoecology.
Given that the Philippines is incredibly vulnerable to natural disasters, Irene’s current research certainly hits close to home. After all, she’s working on developing open-source workflows for processing radar data for rainfall retrieval, comparison with satellite-based precipitation data and post-event analysis of rainfall-induced natural disasters.
Fun fact: Irene considers her research topic of radar meteorology to be “love at first sight.” Any other meteorologists out there? We’d love to hear from you in the comments! Let’s all welcome Irene to the Pinoy Scientists community.
