This week, we’re featuring Pinoy Scientist Gregor Ethan Posadas, a Master’s student and graduate research assistant at the Boise State College of Engineering, United States. He is also an Envision Sustainability Professional and committee member for the City of Boise Community Climate Action Committee.
Greg completed his degree in Civil Engineering at Boise State University with a cum laude distinction. While he was an undergraduate student, Greg became a part of the United States Army Reserve as a Combat Engineer, a position he holds to this day. As part of his work there, he performs engineering calculations to ensure the safety of operations that involve defense obstacle emplacement and explosive demolitions, among others. He also joined Stantec as a Civil Engineering Intern where he dealt with wastewater treatment plants. Remaining at his alma mater, he jumped into his Master of Science in the same discipline, which is still ongoing.
In addition to his studies, Greg is a graduate research assistant at Boise State University studying how delivering high concentration dissolved oxygen to wastewater treatment bioreactors affects plant performance. As a member of the Climate Action Committee at Boise, he is also using his expertise to advise on policies and the Community Climate Action Plan to better integrate sustainability and climate adaptation strategies into the city’s goals.
Some fun facts about Greg:
- His dad – the late Dr. Roger Posadas – was the first relativity physicist in the Philippines. He was also a scientist-activist during the Martial Law era, so Greg draws a lot of inspiration from him when it comes to his research and advocacy.
- He used to be a video game tester for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. On top of this, he also used to stream regularly on Twitch during the pandemic. Since then though, he hasn’t really been able to get back into it.
- He joined the military mainly to receive educational benefits and fortunately, he was able to attain both his Bachelor and Master degrees with the help of military benefits and academic scholarships!
