This week we’re joined by Erinne Ong, a Neuroscience Masters student at the International Max Planck Research School for Neurosciences at the University of Gottingen, Germany.

Erinne graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from De La Salle University where she was also the Editor-in-Chief of The LaSallian. Given her prowess with words, she was soon hired for a full-time science communication role as a staff writer at a Singapore-based science media company. There, she wrote long-form features and research highlights on everything from patient privacy to malaria.

For her masters, Erinne is currently investigating the role of myelin damage in Alzheimer’s disease. However, she is also broadly interested in cell communication, neuron-glia interactions in health and disease and the intersections between neuroscience and cancer biology.

Outside of her studies, Erinne is also the Director of Partnerships and a mentor at GradMAP Philippines, a STEM mentorship network for Filipino students.

Some fun facts about Erinne:

  1. Dino fossils and space photos heal her inner child! Natural History museums are always on the agenda whenever she visits a new city.
  2. As a huge football fan, Erinne’s favorite players are Son Heungmin and Ada Hegerberg. She covered the UAAP women’s football league in college and actively keeps up with the local and international football scene to this day.
  3. She has a horrendous sense of direction, and Google Maps can only help so much. Whenever she’s traveling, she adds 5-10 minutes of “going the wrong way” time per transfer/changeover to estimate how long it’ll take to reach her destination.
