こんにちはMagandang tanghali! Maayong udto ninyo diha mga higala!

Hi everyone, I’m Ea! Your Pinoy scientist for this week. I’m 24 years old and a first year PhD student studying glycoproteins (proteins with sugar chains attached to them) in the central nervous system!

I came from the beautiful island of Leyte, graduated BS in Chemistry at Visayas State University (#iloveVSU ) and currently studying at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology under the MEXT or Japanese government scholarship!

As much as I like science, I also like so many other things like fitness, fashion, traveling and art!

With Art, I’ve decided to showcase my experiments in creative ways through @experimentsinart.ea (Instagram)

On weekends, I run various organizations with fellow student leaders. I‘m the president of the Association of Filipino Students in Japan -AFSJ (2019-2020) and secretariat for the ASEAN Youth Network in Japan.

I studied International Environmental and Agricultural Science for masters which opened my mind to science communication and how important it is to be able to translate our research to people from different fields, so we can collaborate and have more holistic and sustainable solutions to whatever problems we want to tackle with our work. (I had to explain brain research to agriculture majors!)

On my free time I like to dress up, travel, and work-out.

Join me this week as I share to you my research on the brain, Experiments in Art, study opportunities in Japan + AFSJ, Visayas State University and how studying in state universities in the Philippines is something to be proud of, and my favorite -breaking the stereotype of what a scientist should be! This is the generation where we are free to look however we like, wear whatever we like, be part of whatever gender preference we like and still rock it in the field of STEM!

From island girl to city girl, but will always be a science girl
