This week, we’re joined by Dr. Dianne Aguilon, an entomologist and Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
Dianne graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture (Specialization in Entomology) at UPLB, later completing a Master of Science in Entomology (Specialization in Insect Ecology) at the same university as a DOST-ASTHRDP scholar. Under the Stipendium Hungaricum and CHED Partial Support Scholarships, she then finished a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Specialization in Conservation Ecology) summa cum laude from the University of Szeged in Hungary.
Dianne has previously worked as a Research Assistant at UPLB, the University of Szeged, as well as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. She also served as an Instructor at the Southern Luzon State University’s College of Agriculture. Her research interests include insect life history, insect diversity, ant ecology and taxonomy, pollination ecology, forest insect pests, among others.
Some fun facts about Dianne:
- She is a certified coffeeholic and coffee-making apparatus collector, foodie, and wanderer (having lived in 3 countries- Philippines, Thailand ???????? and Hungary and traveled to 35 countries).
- Her family loves pets, especially dogs. They have 2 cute male Shih Tzu, Shelby (father) and Mowgli (son).
- Her love for Entomology (study of insects) started in high school because of the influence of her very first mentor and favorite teacher/ second mom Dr. Ethylinda B. Alpuerto.
