Reaching for the stars, our Pinoy Scientist for the week is Chimira N. Andres, a PhD Earth & Space Science & Engineering student at York University, Canada. Outside of her studies, she also works with both the European (ESA) and Canadian (CSA) Space Agencies.

Chimira received her H.B.Sc. Integrated Science – Spec. in Earth & Environmental Science at McMaster University, Canada. During this time, she was a research assistant and field technician for their Glacial Sedimentology Lab, as well as a teaching assistant. After graduating, she immediately jumped back into her studies by taking her MSc in Geophysics at Western University. While there, she gained a great deal of mission experience by participating in experiments and projects headed by the Canadian Space Agency and Lunar and Planetary Laboratory in Canada. One of her more recent missions was as a part of the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission Investigation Team by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in 2021.

Chimira is now a PhD Earth & Space Science & Engineering student at York University, Toronto. Other than her PhD work, she is also the Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System Target Lead for the ESA’s CaSSIS ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter Mission. Additionally, she is a scientist of the Canadian Lunar Utility Vehicle and Rover Mission under the CSA. In her spare time, she remains a teaching assistant and a glaciology instructor for Girls On Ice Canada.

Some fun facts about Chimira:
