Here to open up your mind is Pinoy Scientist Aron Harold Pamoso, a registered psychometrician and PhD candidate in Psychology at the Australian National University (ANU).
Aron received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2016. The year after, he started his Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at the University of San Carlos, Philippines where he studied the stigma faced by Filipino men who have sex with men (MSM’s) who live with HIV. During this time, he also served as a lecturer at the Department of Psychology, University of Southern Philippines Foundation as well as a psychometrician at the university’s Guidance & Testing Services Center. After graduating with his Master’s degree, he became a full instructor at the University of San Carlos Department of Psychology. In 2020 he served as a Project Admin Lead and Wellness Coach at PowerVision EAP Inc., a job he kept until he left to pursue his PhD.
Aron is now at ANU taking up his PhD in Psychology under the ANU International Research Scholarship and Higher Degree Research Fee Merit Scholarship. In line with his Master’s degree topic, he is researching intersectional lived experience leadership while tackling HIV and mental health among Filipino gay and bisexual men. Concurrently, he has also served as a casual sessional academic at the ANU’s School of Medicine & Psychology and Research School of Management.
Some fun facts about Aron:
- If he had not pursued Psychology, he would have majored in Music. During his formative years, he was informally trained in classical piano and had joined various chorale groups
- He has three pets at home: a black labrador named Charlie, an American Bully named Hinhin and a Siamese Persian Black Cat named Nyx. He is a dog person though.
- He developed an intense passion for cycling recently when he moved to Canberra, Australia. He commutes to the university and work using his bike, and almost every weekend, he cycles across the beautiful city.
