Taking over this week is Pinoy Scientist Angelo “Cholo” Aquino, co-founder and CEO of Energy Exchange Philippines, a start-up that enables vulnerable families and communities to access cheaper and cleaner electricity sources. Currently, his team at Energy Exchange Philippines is working on solar power access for an unelectrified sitio in Quezon City.
Cholo graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Physics from the same University, and was a PhD candidate at the University of Sheffield’s Energy 2050 Group.
Aside from his work at Energy Exchange Philippines, Cholo is also presently teaching Physics and Mathematics at the Ateneo de Manila University and Kalayaan College respectively.
Fun fact! For Cholo, the top 3 places he’s been to are: 1) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2) Florence, Italy and 3) Dubrovnik, Croatia. As a big Game of Thrones fan, it was a dream come true for Cholo to see the real-life King’s Landing!
