Science Field: Geology
John Michael Ausejo
Geology, VolcanologyJohn Michael “Mike” Ausejo is a licensed geologist, chemical volcanologist, and MPhil-PhD Earth Sciences student at The University of Hong Kong. He is studying the petrology, geochemistry, and timescales of Taal deposits from the volcanic eruption of 2020.
Princess Aira Buma-at
Geology, Paleontology, ZoologyPrincess Aira Buma-at is a pre-Cambrian paleontologist taking her PhD at the Department of Zoology and University Museum of Zoology in Cambridge. She is studying Ediacaran macro and microfossils to understand how life evolved in its earliest stages.
Cathy Manalo
Geology, Social ScienceCathy Manalo is an NGO worker focused on countermapping and human rights. She believes in employing participatory methods and collective work to further scientific knowledge and in using science to advance human rights.
Ma. Criselda Baldago
GeologyMa. Criselda “Dang” Baldago is a licensed geologist and Science Research Specialist at the Philippine Space Agency. She uses satellite radar data to observe ground movements. This provides insight into ground subsidence, earthquake and volcano deformation, flooding, and urban changes, among others.
Likha Minimo
GeologyA geologist by training, Dr. Likha Minimo is a faculty member of the Science and Society Program (SSP) of the College of Science, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. She teaches Science, Technology and Society (STS) and Disaster Risk Mitigation, Adaptation, and Preparedness Strategies (DRMAPS).
Dainty Clarice Rabang
Earth Science, GeologyDainty Clarice Rabang is a geoscientist working as the head of the Climate Resilient Development Section of the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. She spends her days analyzing geohazard maps and developing plans and projects to improve community resilience.
Deborah Tangunan
Agriculture, Geology, Marine Biology, Science CommunicationDeborah Tangunan is a micropaleontologist, biogeochemist, and palaeoclimate scientist, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences in Cardiff University, UK. Currently, she is working on the biogeochemistry of marine calcifying organisms, and what they can tell us about ocean productivity, carbonate chemistry, and ecosystem function to better understand the present and future climate scenarios.
John Dale Dianala
GeologyJohn Dale Dianala is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines’ National Institute of Geological Sciences. His research interests lie in understanding where, how often, and why earthquakes happen by studying how tectonic faults deform in time and space.
Remika Gupana
Geography, GeologyRemika Gupana is a PhD student in Geography at the University of Zurich! She is developing techniques for sun-induced fluorescence retrieval in coastal areas and lakes.
Irene Crisologo
GeologyIrene Crisologo is a postdoc at Northwestern University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. She is working on developing open-source workflows for processing radar data for rainfall retrieval, comparison with satellite-based precipitation data and post-event analysis of rainfall-induced natural disasters.
