Carla Bertulfo is a PhD candidate in Biological Sciences at Columbia University. For Carla’s doctoral studies, they are using the Nobel Prize-winning gene editing technology CRISPR to explore combinatorial therapies against T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Lowell Iporac is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Environment at the Florida International University. In his current doctoral work, Lowell explores interactions between macroalgae and invertebrates as well as investigates the characteristics of habitat-forming organisms in tropical shallow coastal systems.

Emmylou Nicolas recently graduated with a Master of Biotechnology from the University of Adelaide in Australia where she used the Nobel Prize-winning gene editing tool CRISPR/Cas9 to investigate disease-causing gene variants.

Alexa Abangan is a Marine Sciences graduate from Sorbonne University and is about to start her PhD journey with the French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER) where she will explore fish behavior and develop machine learning technologies.

Justine Millado is a soon-to-be Doctor of Agricultural Science from Nagoya University. Her doctoral thesis focuses on analyzing apoptosis regulation in the domestic silk moth.

Andrea Salvador is a neuroscience PhD student at the University of Virginia. Since starting her PhD, Andoi has already published in prestigious journals like Nature, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Immunology, Nature Reviews Immunology and Cell.

Sero graduated with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Neuroscience, with minors in Economics and Comparative American Studies from Oberlin College. Currently, Sero is a graduate research fellow at Princeton exploring the genetic mechanisms of early-life stress.

Ronilo “Onille” Flores is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) and Associate Dean of the UPLB Graduate School. Onille’s current research projects revolve on microbial ecology and biotechnology toward planetary health which includes exploring microoganisms from different habitats and sources and their biotechnological and medical applications.

Aeiou Martija is a doctoral researcher at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. For his doctoral research, Aeiou is currently exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying glioblastoma, a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumor.

Isa is undertaking Veterinary Biology and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Sydney. As expected of a veterinarian-in-training, there was never a time in Isa’s life when she did not have a pet.

Meg Daupan is a Program Manager for the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at the University of Michigan. Currently, she leads all aspects of the DDCSP-UM from recruiting students across the United States, to building partnerships with environmental researchers and conservation professionals, and serving as a mentor to the scholars.

John Noel Viaña is a bioethicist and postdoctoral fellow at the Australian National University Centre for the Public Awareness of Science. He is in the process of evaluating the current global state of precision health research to develop responsible innovation frameworks.

Joeselle Serrana is a PhD student at the Center of Marine Environmental Studies in Ehime University, Japan. His thesis revolves around next-generation freshwater monitoring and the applications of DNA metabarcoding for ecological assessment.

Colleen Rosales is an Environmental Science and Chemistry practitioner. She is conducting research interests revolve around atmospheric chemistry, indoor air quality and ambient air pollution among others.

Ever Tamayo is a Biochemistry and Environmental Science practitioner. She works at an international NGO focused on reducing air pollution through science-based policy development.

Kent Sorgon is a marine scientist and a research associate for the FISH ARK project for Taal Lake, which seeks to conserve the endemic tawilis found in the water body.

Ma. Rowena Romana-Eguia is a scientist at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center. Her current research projects revolve around studying tilapia lake virus in pond soil and water, as well as the use of plant-based protein sources in tilapia feeds, among many others.

Denise Matias is a research scientist at the Institute for Social Ecological Research in Frankfurt, Germany. There, she undertakes social-ecological research on the Mongolian steppe ecosystem.

Nikki Dyanne Realubit is a graduate student in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas. Nikki was the project leader for establishing the ecological information on the McGregor’s pit viper in Batanes, a project coordinator for terrestrial biodiversity research methods on the birds of Tawi-Tawi and a biology teacher at the Holistic Education and Development Center in Taytay, Rizal.

Jay Fidelino is a wildlife biologist and MS Biology student at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
