Pinoy Scientists in the Philippines

Noel Peter Tan is an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering and Director of the CANMEET at the University of San Agustin (USA). Noel’s research interests include smart packaging, bioplastics, nano fiber membrane fabrication, and circular economy.

Llenel “Ellie” De Castro is an archaeologist and community heritage practitioner. Her thesis focused on the impact of archaeology in Palawan’s Dewil Valley.

Krystel Mae Peñaflor is a licensed forester, conservationist, and climate analyst currently working as an Environmental Health and Safety Officer at Kenelton Engineering Services. She also leads two co-founded youth organizations: Youth Climate Navigators and EmpoWoment Storytellers: Women for Climate and Biodiversity.

Al-Ahmadgaid Asaad is a statistician and data scientist currently working as the manager for Advanced Analytics at Johnson & Johnson, where he leads a team of data scientists that deal with volume/demand forecasting and possess automation, among others..

Lawrence Limjuco is a chemical engineer and senior lecturer at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, teaching courses for materials science and chemical engineering. He is also leading several DOST projects investigating materials for next generation batteries and policy research for waste-to-energy sustainability.

Mark Jayson Felix is a Senior Science Research Specialist at the Philippine Space Agency under the Earth Sciences Space Mission Studies Division where he puts his expertise on remote sensing to use by conducting research related to water quality and air-water interactions.

Keziah Bartilad is a Senior Science Research Specialist at the Philippine Space Agency. Her work includes the day-to-day operations of the Diwata-2 satellite and other space assets, ground station maintenance and repair campaigns, the creation and updating of standard operating procedures, strategic research and development activities, and the procurement of necessary equipment and spare parts.

John Leur Labrador is the the Chief Science Research Specialist of the Philippine Space Agency’s Spacecraft Mechanical and Autonomous Systems Development Division. He is also a Project Manager for the MULA satellite project, the next-generation Philippine satellite for earth observation.

Ramuel Tamargo is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Head of the Advanced Materials and Organic Synthesis Laboratory. His research interests include the environmentally friendly synthesis of organic and inorganic materials, UV filters and chemical/nanomaterial-based sensors, and natural products among others!

Chosel Lawagon is the Director of Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions and Director of the Institute of Emerging Technologies at the University of Mindanao. Chosel has worked on a variety of research projects, including leveraging food waste for myriad applications.

Syrus Gomari, transportation scientist, CEO and founder of Mobility Vision Plus (MoVi+), a company that uses computer vision and data science to develop a next-generation urban mobility planning product.

Joan Talubo is an Assistant Professor at the UPLB Department of Community and Environmental Resource Planning. Her doctoral thesis assessed island socio-ecological resilience for disaster risk and recovery planning in the Philippines.

Yumi Briones is a chemist, researcher, and CEO extraordinaire. She a researcher at the University of the Philippines and also the co-founder and CEO of Savon Cleaning Solutions.

Aissa Domingo is an artist, photographer, and illustrator for the Zoology Division at the National Museum of the Philippines. Notably, Aissa led the reconstructive painting of the replica and actual taxidermy specimen of Lolong—the largest crocodile in captivity.

Edwin Miguel Anadon is a forensic anthropologist. He has worked as a research associate on a variety of projects including human osteology and the investigation of human remains collected as Japanese war dead from World War 2.

Ingrid Espinosa is an intern at the Imperial College Policy Forum in London, England, where she writes and edits policy briefs as well as other content for policy engagement.

Ciara Juan is a PhD student in Exercise Biochemistry at Ulster University in the UK. Ciara’s thesis is exploring the relationship between epigenetics and aging.

Angelica Suarez is a PhD student taking up pharmaceutical chemistry at the National University of Singapore. Aica is undertaking the genome mining and functional studies of modifying enzymes found in certain natural product pathways.

Jethro Gallardo is a product engineer for GPU Chip Ops at NVIDIA Taiwan. Jethro’s responsibilities include analyzing product yield limiters, defining product test requirements, driving new product introduction, and continuously finding opportunities to improve the product process.

Robert Badrina is a weather specialist at the Marine Meteorology Services Section at PAGASA. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Meteorological Society, and also has a Certificate of Basic Pastoral Ministry from the Loyola School of Theology.
