Pinoy Scientist Dr. Likha Minimo is digging her way into our feed this week of July! A geologist by training, she is now working as a faculty member of the Science and Society Program (SSP) of the College of Science, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.
Likha graduated from UP with a degree in Geology, which she then followed up with a Master’s in the field from the same University. While doing her graduate degree, she was a member of the Volcano Tectonics Laboratory and began teaching as an instructor at the UP Diliman National Institute of Geological Sciences. Moving to the University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 2016, she took up her PhD in Disaster Risk and Resilience from the School of Earth and Environment, studying disasters occurring in Mindanao, Philippines.
Likha has since returned to UP and is currently the Director for the Knowledge Sharing Division of the UP Resilience Institute. She teaches Science, Technology and Society (STS) and Disaster Risk Mitigation, Adaptation, and Preparedness Strategies (DRMAPS).
Some fun facts about Likha:
- Umakyat na sya ng Mt. Apo, kaso di nya masyadong na-feel kasi sobrang cloudy that day.
- She used to play football with PhD friends, now she plays with toddlers. #titalifeisreal
- She paints nature with strings and yarn and wears it.
