Opening up the month of March is licensed mechanical engineer Engr. Felix Alejandro Camagay. Specializing in prosthetics and orthotics, Felix works as a biomedical engineering consultant for Lithe Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc. (LitheOP) and is a project manager for the UERM NEOLIMB Center for Research on Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies on Mobility.
Felix graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering joining Gustilo Orthopaedic Research Inc. and Orthopaedic International, Inc. (OII) as a biomedical engineer right after. He moved to France for his Master’s, earning his first degree in BioMedical Engineering from the Université de Paris and his second in BioMechanics from the École Nationale Supérieure D’Arts et Métiers. For his thesis, he visited the ETH Zürich Neuroengineering Laboratory in Switzerland where he developed an estimation tool for peripheral nerve stimulation to be used in neuroprosthetic devices.
Felix has since returned to the Philippines and worked as a research and development engineer and product development officer at OII and Omnimed Phils, Inc. respectively. Now, he is a consultant at LitheOP and a project manager for the UERM NEOLIMB Center for Research on Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies on Mobility. He also lectures for the UP Diliman Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Some fun facts about Felix:
- As his ‘Vitamin C’, Felix’s love for chocolate was partly why he took his Master’s in France and Switzerland. While in Paris, he attended the Salon du Chocolat, an annual celebration of chocolate from around the world.
- He was a former team captain of the UP Track and Field Team. While a predominantly individual sport, he learned that you can still motivate and inspire others as a team.
- He was not a stellar student while in undergrad, experiencing the spectrum of UP’s grading system. As a first year, he focused on his studies but by his second year he entered the varsity program, and voila! Nonetheless, he gained a lot of experience during this time.
