Rounding up 2020’s Pinoy Scientists takeovers is marine scientist Kent Sorgon.
Kent graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Santo Tomas. Today, he is a Master’s student in Zoology (Minor in Marine Science) at the University of the Philippines Los Banos.
A certified open water SCUBA diver, Kent has been involved in several fa-sea-nating projects. For instance, he was formerly a coral biology and taxonomy illustrator at the De La Salle University as well as a research associate for UPLB’s Coral Reef Visualization and Assessment Project, among many other things.
Currently, Kent is a research associate for the FISH ARK project for Taal Lake, which seeks to conserve the endemic tawilis found in the water body.

Kent Sorgon first took over the page while he was a Master’s student in Zoology at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He was also a research associate for the FISH ARK project for Taal Lake at this time where he worked on the conservation of tawilis - an endemic fish species from the lake.
In the interim five years, Kent completed his Master’s degree in 2023 and worked as a researcher on a number of projects such as the HINGACU Project at the University of the Philippines Diliman and the DOST - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development - funded Ayungin project at UP Los Baños. In 2024, Kent joined Ateneo de Manila University as an Instructor for the Department of Biology teaching ecology and marine biology.
