We’ve got another wildlife biologist for you this week! Meet Nikki Dyanne Realubit, a graduate student in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas!
Nikki graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of the Philippines Diliman, after which she pursued her Master’s in Wildlife Studies at the UP Los Banos. During her years in the Philippines, Nikki was involved in various projects — serving as a research assistant for the ecology and conservation of parrots in Luzon to analyzing the gut contents of small, non-volant rodents in Mt Banahaw.
More recently, Nikki was the project leader for establishing the ecological information on the McGregor’s pit viper in Batanes, a project coordinator for terrestrial biodiversity research methods on the birds of Tawi-Tawi and a biology teacher at the Holistic Education and Development Center in Taytay, Rizal.
In case it wasn’t obvious from her interesting resume, Nikki is an avid adventure seeker who tries to do things that scare her: from pole dancing to responsibly catching venomous snakes and teaching 20+ grade 2 pupils at the same time!
She also loves travelling! By her 50th birthday, Nikki aims to go to every kind of biome and continent in the world, having her own pictures to put on the slide deck when she teaches.
Finally, did you know that Nikki has been reading since she was two? She particularly loves immersing herself in fantasy novels like the Wheel of Time, Discworld and Game of Thrones among others.
Let’s all welcome Nikki to the Pinoy Scientists fam.
