Another week, another Pinoy Scientist takeover! This time, we’re going all the way to UK – introducing Kirstie Bruce, a Materials Science PhD researcher, graduate teaching assistant and content ambassador from the University of Manchester!

Kirstie finished her Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Particle Physics and Cosmology from the University of Birmingham. For her final year project, she and her team looked at the feasibility of tangentially connecting a linear accelerator to CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.

She then followed this with a Master’s degree in Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors at the same university, where she studied the effects of irradiation on the hardness of grade 91 and 92 steels. For her PhD dissertation, Kirstie is working on the heat treatment optimisation of electron beam welded reactor pressure vessel steel!

Some fun facts about Kirstie: an avid daydreamer, she tends to get lost in her thoughts and not pay attention while walking. In other words, she trips a lot. She also loves to write and finds that she thinks clearer when her thoughts are put to paper.

Let’s all welcome Kirstie to the Pinoy Scientists fam!
