Meet Pinoy Scientist Kirstene Gultian, a doctoral research fellow at Rowan University in New Jersey, USA studying Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering.

Before coming to the US, Kirstene graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering from UP Diliman. In 2018, she commenced her PhD journey at Rowan University. In her research, she develops hydrogel-based materials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, particularly for bone regeneration and guiding stem cell differentiation and behavior.

As a licensed chemical engineer, Kirstene feels like her background is an advantage in biomedical engineering as she gets to apply many chemical engineering concepts in her work.
