Joining us this week is Julliane Negre, aspiring physician-scientist and current Biological Sciences undergraduate at Marquette University.
An iskolar ng bayan, Julliane graduated from Philippine Science High School with high honors. Her high school research, conducted at the Disease Molecular Biology and Epigenetics Laboratory at UP Diliman’s National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, involved the phenotypic characterization of a rare gene mutation.
At Marquette University, Julliane is a Global Scholarship Recipient and is affiliated with the Reiter Lab. For her undergraduate project, she is characterizing and developing a bacterial enzyme as a novel antibiotic drug target.
Some fun facts about Julliane:
- She wanted to explore new fields of research so she worked with rats for a semester. The group she joined is studying chronic stress learning and the molecular pathways involved in the brain’s response to stress. She legit enjoyed handling the rats!
- If she wasn’t pursuing an MD/PhD, she’d probably be a travel vlogger or a comedian.
- She has a collection of tattoos and fully intends to expand it.
