This week, we’re joined by Chino Bandonil, a PhD student in Molecular and Cell Biology at Taiwan’s Academia Sinica.
Chino graduated cum laude with Bachelor in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where was also an Oblation Scholar (top 50 qualifiers of UPCAT) and a Merit Scholar under the Department of Science and Technology.
After graduating, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Molecular Biology in Taiwan’s Academia Sinica. There, he worked on various projects, including investigating mitochondrial and glycolytic dynamics during cancer and stress conditions to studying neuron morphology and development.
Some fun facts about Chino:
- He can sleep anytime anywhere. He once slept while standing in an EDSA bus during rush hour.
- If he weren’t a scientist, he would probably be a photographer. There’s something about a beautifully composed photo or video that moves him.
- He once had an axolotl as a pet! He called him Axel the Axolotl and gave him fish pellets for food. It was easy to get food because he was working in a zebrafish lab.
Let’s all welcome Chino to the Pinoy Scientists fam!
