Happy Easter Sunday, Pinoy Scientists fam! This week, we’re joined by materials engineer Jade Castro.
Jade graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from the University of the Philippines, where her thesis revolved around the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using bakong stem extract.
Today, she works as a materials engineer at Manly Plastics’ Research & Development unit. Her work involves establishing a more scientific approach to materials management as the company shifts from old to new systems, as well as research and development of upcycling products.
Jade is also the founder and lead volunteer of Ideal Materials PH, a community initiative to establish local and accessible Materials Recovery Facilities in Metro Manila. Ideal Materials PH has partnered with other organizations for projects like creating sorting guides, and improving material recovery and waste diversion rates.
Three fun facts about Jade:
- She is a fur-mom to 12 (!!!) cats and tries to rescue/foster when she can.
- She is a tea-ta and has English Breakfast every morning.
- She loves making and drinking sangria!
Let’s all say hi and welcome Jade to the Pinoy Scientists community!
