Take a walk on the wild side this week with Kier Pitogo, who is currently a wildlife biologist with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – PENRO South Cotabato.

Kier graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology cum laude from Mindanao State University. He then took up graduate studies in Environment and Natural Resources Management at the University of the Philippines Open University and finished his Master’s in Wildlife Studies (minor in Zoology) from UP Los Baños.

In his current role, Kier leads biodiversity field surveys in forest and wetland habitats, as well as maintains a biodiversity database system that is then used to inform science and evidence-based policy interventions. He also previously worked as a Chapter Coordinator for the Global Youth Biodiversity Network – Southeast Asia and as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Human Origins of Arizona State University – Tempe.

Some fun facts about Kier:

  1. Finding Nemo inspired him to pursue marine biology.
  2. He has preserved frogs, snakes and lizards in his room (all legally collected, of course!)
  3. For him, jackets are life — the one material thing he can’t live without!

Let’s all welcome Kier this week!
