Time for a show of hands–who loves math? This week’s Pinoy Scientist sure does! Meet Dr. Rommel Real, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of the Philippines Mindanao.
Rommel graduated with a Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics (major in Operations Research) from UP Mindanao, later moving to the Diliman campus for his Master’s in the same field with a specialization in Optimization and Approximation. He then took up his PhD in Mathematics at the Australian National University, graduating just last July!
As an Assistant Professor at UP Mindanao, Rommel handles courses related to calculus, numerical analysis and optimization.
At home, he loves to brew coffee and outside, loves wearing batik polo and colored socks. Funnily enough, he also has two symmetrical moles on his face (try to spot ’em in the photos).
