We’re kicking off our birthday month August with physicist Adelle Yuson, a faculty member at Central Mindanao University and program lead of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics’ online Physics Meetup.
Adelle graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, magna cum laude, from the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). She then took up her MS in Physics from the same university, supported by scholarships from the Department of Science and Technology throughout.
Today, Adelle is concurrently a PhD candidate in Nanotechnology at Thailand’s Asian Institute of Technology, where she is working on developing halide perovskite solar cells and environmentally-friendly alternatives for nanocoating plating baths.
As the program lead for Physics Meetup, Adelle is passionate about introducing global physics icons like Roger Freedman (author of library mainstay University Physics) to students in rural areas. She is also actively involved in women in science initiatives.
Some fun facts about Adelle:
- Whenever stressed, Adelle immerses herself in cleaning the house and lab. The higher the stress level, the deeper the cleaning!
- Growing up, Adelle always wondered what it was like to experience snow (even studying fractals in college!) Luckily, she had her first taste of snow last year, describing it as a “magical and emotional” experience
- Adelle’s grandparents were farmers in Bukidnon, and so she spent most childhood summers in the farm. One of her favorite memories involves riding a balsahan (carabao sled) with her lolo to the town center to mill corn
Let’s all welcome Adelle to the PS fam!
