This week, we’re joined by Jonas Dumdum, a registered chemist and consultant at the think-tank Nomura Research Institute Singapore, Manila branch.
Jonas graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He then took up a Master’s in Renewable Energy and Resource Management from the University of South Wales.
Through the years, Jonas has held several roles in the sustainability sector—working as an analyst, consultant, and project coordinator for companies and organizations driving sustainability development and environmental protection.
Jonas has been a Climate Reality Leader since 2021 and this year, he was appointed the European Climate Pact Ambassador for the Philippines. Among his many advocacies, Jonas is the co-host and researcher for the podcast Sustainarumble and is a board member and corporate secretary for Sustainable PH, Inc.
Some fun facts about Jonas:
- Before becoming a podcaster, Jonas was a vlogger for the University of South Wales Student Vloggers Project—becoming the first masters and first Filipino student, and second Southeast Asian vlogger for the university.
- Apart from science and sustainability, he is also passionate about history and culture, having participated in and even won ASEAN national and regional Quizzes in the past.
- Before joining the sustainability field, his research explored how to efficiently convert biogas to hydrogen using a solid oxide fuel cell setup. He is still eager to go back to hydrogen and other advanced energy technologies (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors) as a way to combat carbon emissions in energy and transport that accounts for more than 70% of Philippine national emissions according to a 2021 study of the European Union’s Joint Research Centre
- His favorite comfort food is two packs of Indomie Original with a fried egg on top.
