Meet Joeselle Serrana a PhD student at the Center of Marine Environmental Studies in Ehime University, Japan.
Joeselle graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Bulacan State University, where he analyzed the antifungal effects of chitosan on corn. He then took up an MS degree in Biology at De La Salle University before proceeding to his current position.
At Ehime University, his thesis revolves around next-generation freshwater monitoring and the applications of DNA metabarcoding for ecological assessment.
Some fun facts about Joeselle:
- A proud Maloleño from the Latians of Bulacan, he basically grew-up with bangus and tilapias in the backyard
- Joeselle shares a single-room apartment with his plant tenants.
- Because of his first name, Joeselle can no longer count the times that he has had to request for corrections due to being referred to as “Ms. Serrana” in important documents.
Let’s all welcome Joeselle to the Pinoy Scientists fam!
