Shining a light on the intersection between renewable energy, satellites, and space technology is Pinoy Scientist Dr. Izrael Zenar Bautista. A licensed Electronics Engineer, he is a Chief Science Research specialist at the Philippine Space Agency‘s Space Mission and Control Operation Division.

Izrael’s interest in renewable energy technology began early, studying wind turbines at the University of the Philippines Diliman for his Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering. He remained at the university to pursue his Master of Science in Energy Engineering. Concurrent with his degree, he participated in several research projects under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, and the DOST Robust and Rapidly Deployable GSM Base station for Emergency Disaster Response (ROGER) Project (ROGER). He was also a part of the Philippine Microsatellite Project. He moved to Japan to take up his PhD in Space Engineering at the Kyushu Institute of Technology, studying perovskite solar cells for space applications. During this time, he was also a project manager at the Joint Global Multination BIRDS Program (BIRDS-4).

Since graduating with his PhD, Izrael has been working at the Philippine Space Agency. Now, he is a Chief Science Research specialist at the Space Mission and Control Operation Division, specializing in satellite engineering and operations.

Some fun facts about Izrael:
