Character reveals microorganisms nature

Hi, it’s me again, Onille (@onilleflores)

It ThesisTuesday and Technique Tuesday

One of the things that microbial taxonomists do is to use characters to differentiate or identify microbes. The correct identification of microorganisms is a necessary step in exploring their biotechnological potential or finding solutions to their spread (if they are pathogenic)

These pictures show us the difference between B-glucuronidase-producing (in bright blue fluorescence) and the non-B-glucuronidase-producing E. coli (pale non-fluorescent) typical of verotoxin-producing E. coli O157:H7. By knowing their characters, we would know who they are and how to deal with them.

Whether it’s humans or microbes, character reveals their nature.

PS: These pictures are from my first-ever publication out of my undergraduate thesis. I pay homage to my undergraduate advisers Dr. Mendoza and Ms. Perez of UP Los Banos.
