The Beginnings of a Pinay Development and Science Communication Practitioner
Hey everybody! I am Ysay (@ysaylee), taking over Pinoy Scientists this week!
I get a lot of questions about what I do professionally. The most basic explanation I have is that I work with scientists and researchers to make their work more approachable and relatable – may it be within the organization itself, or with the general public. Before getting this full-time communications gig at the Alliance @bioversityciat, I’ve been in more of a research and comms role for the Manila Observatory, and before that, a full-time research assistant for a DOST-PCAARRD funded project.
So in a sense, I’ve dipped my feet in several pools of science communication work. This provided the perspective of how to work with scientists and researchers, and how to approach communicating research processes and results. It’s interesting to try on different hats in science communications especially now that there are more opportunities to experience it from local and international perspectives.
